In the shaft line sterntube is used for shaft bearing housing and hence its designing is based on shaft diameter, length and type of cooling and lubrication system. Usually water and oil lubricating sterntube are in use & sometimes grease lubricating sterntubes are also used.

Sterntube is designed as per the application and type of vessels i.e wood, fibre, steel or aluminium. SG can supply a wide range of sterntube assemblies according to customer specifications, hull design and engine performance. The range of materials used for sterntube manufacturing are as follows - Non ferrous brass tube, GRP tube & Carbon Steel tube.
